I do not know how I survived.
This semester was pretty rough. My schedule was rearranged against my will. Although I ended up dropping the accounting minor, I was still was on campus for about 12 hours a day, four days a week.
However, these really were the best classes I have taken yet! My absolute favorite class was my Database class. First, we learned about database design and used ERDs. Then, we learned SQL using Microsoft SQL Server to create a working prototype database ourselves. This class made so much about application development click for me. This class (and the professor, Dr. Edberg) has me so excited to keep going down this path my career has taken me.
The other class I thoroughly enjoyed was my C# class. Although I have done a little bit of coding before, I hadn’t coded in any of the C languages before. This class was the practice I needed for the basics. Then, we learned about some basic structures and did some more practice. I now feel a lot more confident about attempting to learn a new language or learn more difficult concepts on my own.
My project management class also ended up being pretty useful. As I mentioned back in October, I became Scrum Certified as part of a requirement for this class. One of my classmates ended up obtaining his PMP certification near the end of the semester, but I’ll revisit that for myself when I’m further along in my career.
Overall, this semester has taught me that as long as I get to code as part of my work, I’ll be happy. I’m looking forward to Internet Programming in particular next semester, and Python after that! I am also ready to return to the workforce so I can stop doing homework (again).
Cheers
