Working at the Makerspace on campus led me to build connections with the librarians working there. One day, while perusing job postings, I stumbled upon an opportunity at the main campus library as an E-Resources Coordinator with the Discovery Team.
I reached out to Tara, the Engineering librarian, and Chrissy, the GIS librarian. To my surprise, they revealed that the previous occupant of this role had also worked at the Makerspace before!
Tara offered to go over my application documents, and she helped me so much with all of it. She also was part of my interview team, so she was able to help me during the interview as well. Long story short, I was offered the position. After 4 months of going through the hiring process, I finally was able to start my new job!
My new role doesn’t involve coding (yet), but I’m loving it. I get to work with Excel and Oracle Analytics, and I’m learning so much about our Library Management System, Alma. Alma is amazing compared to some clunky inventory systems I’ve dealt with before. Plus, I’ve already finished my Primo VE certification!
I love working in a library, I get to access to almost all of our electronic resources – I’ve been starting to search the databases over scrolling Instagram. My Grammy volunteered at her local library for a long time (from my earliest memories of her to when she couldn’t anymore), being in a library is also helping me feel close to her.
I do intend to continue with grad school in the spring.
I’m not sure what this website will become as time moves on.
